Resident Artist Fonda Brings Colorful Imagery, Light and Imaginative Creativity to The Hearth at Drexel

October 17, 2022

The walls inside one of the suites at The Hearth at Drexel, in Bala Cynwyd, PA, came to life with imaginatively colorful, expressionistic, light-filled images last year, when a vibrant resident named Fonda moved in. Fonda has been painting and taking classes at local art centers for years. Prior to moving to The Hearth, she exhibited often in student and member shows at Main Line Art Center in Haverford, PA.

When asked what initially sparked her interest in painting, Fonda tells an unusual story. “Many years ago, a Psychic Medium told me that I had artistic talents that I should be using, so I took those words to heart and started taking art classes.” Fonda elaborates, saying, “My paintings are not representational images of specific locations-not landscapes, seascapes nor still lives-but rather the colorful images spring from my imagination and reflect how I see and interpret the world around me.”

Although her paintings are non-objective, rather than representations of specific locales, traveling and seeing the world has been one of Fonda’s favorite pursuits. Fonda explains, “Some years ago, I went on a trip to Italy and enjoyed traveling throughout Tuscany. The beautiful light there stayed with me when I returned home, and I enjoyed pouring that inspirational energy into my work.”

After living a full life and raising her family in the suburban community of Baederwood, near Jenkintown, PA, Fonda moved outside of Washington, D. C. for several years. Then, she moved back to the western suburbs of Philadelphia, where she lived independently, until she and her family realized that the time had come to downsize and relocate to a more secure location, within a senior residential community that offered a variety of lifestyle options. After looking at a number of communities, Fonda was thrilled to move to The Hearth.

Since moving to The Hearth, Fonda enjoys getting together with her daughter, Marla, often, and going out together for periodic excursions.  Fonda explains, “The Hearth is wonderfully centrally located; there are so many delightful places to visit so close by. We can go shopping and out to lunch without driving very far. Sometimes, we just go out for coffee and to enjoy the sights in our local community,” she adds.

Recently, Fonda and Marla enjoyed attending The Hearth’s Annual Family Picnic together, right on the grounds of the Hearth property.
