A Perfect Fit: Administrative Coordinator Katy Scafide Finds a Home at the Hearth
December 4, 2025

When Katy Scafide began her role as Administrative Coordinator in March of 2024, she immediately felt at home.
“When I first met Executive Director Dana Guyton, I instantly fell in love with the place. I thought she was amazing,” Katy says. Her initial meeting with Dana and The Hearth’s kind, welcoming environment helped Katy feel like a perfect fit for the job.
Supporting every corner of The Hearth
Katy supports almost every department at The Hearth. “Whether I’m helping HR with something, or nursing, or marketing—I’m everywhere,” she says with a smile. “Every day is a little different, and I love that I get to do a bit of something for every department.”
She usually begins her day with a walkthrough of the mansion to make sure everything is organized. She checks supplies, discovers where she can help with the day’s community events, and sees where leadership needs her administrative support. Through it all, she thrives on being available and adaptable.
“People say they see me everywhere in the building,” she laughs. “They’re like, ‘I just saw you downstairs, and now you’re up here!’”
Building relationships in a community of caring
For Katy, the people are what really put the heart in The Hearth. “The people here are just wonderful,” she says. “Folks really care about what they’re doing. They put in the extra effort to make this a warm and welcoming place—not just for residents, but for other staff and the family members who come and visit. They make sure that people are heard and seen and taken care of. Everyone goes the extra step here, and I’m happy to do that as well,” Katy says.
She also treasures her relationships with the residents and takes time to connect with them while delivering mail, helping at an event, or just stopping to chat in the hallway. “Developing relationships with the residents has been really meaningful. I find working in assisted living with older people to be inspirational, especially when you hear them talk about the amazing things they have done in their lives.”
A role that fits just right
Katy is also thankful that her role plays to her strengths. An advocate for ADHD visibility, she is open about the part of her job that’s most appealing. “I have ADHD, so my brain operates a little differently,” she shares. “I feel this position—being able to move in different areas, different departments—just really helps me stay focused and engaged with my job.”
At The Hearth, Katy has found purpose, connection, and community. Surrounded by colleagues who go the extra mile and residents who inspire her, she’s discovered a place where her talents can shine—and a community she is excited to show up for every day.
