Healthcare providers along the continuum of care such as nurses, social workers, and administrative leaders have remained on the front line of the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic was a worldwide traumatizing event heightening the need for Trauma Informed Care on behalf of healthcare providers. As COVID-19 appears to shift from a pandemic to an endemic, we must start to understand the unwinding process and prepare for our new normal. There are practical questions, such as what should a visitation policy require now? How did the COVID-19 pandemic impact our society medically, financially, emotionally, psychologically, educationally, and culturally? How do professionals such as nurses, social workers, etc. respond to support individuals, families, and communities in processing the effects? There are financial implications, such as what happens when the protection afforded Medicaid recipients under the Families First Response Act are removed. Facilities that accept Medicaid may have to prepare for a significant process to ensure that their patients funding continues uninterrupted. Let’s look forward to this unwinding to new normal knowing that many challenges remain along the way.
